My New Best Friend

I saw myself in the mirror today and I was 6 months old

I held me up to my shoulder and the world was big and bold

I smiled at me and laughed and turned and there I was again

My new born son who has my smile and born my new best friend

The sun burns on

Winds blow by

It may all start to look the same

Without looking in your own eyes

Well the tide just ebbed again

It’s a million-year-old trend

But it’s the first time I got to show it to my new best friend

I’ve climbed mountains and sailed the seas and flown and played in bands

I found love and won in sports and made things with my hands

Just when I thought I’d done it all, and getting bored with time

There’s a brand new me, and banyon tree, just begging to be climbed

The earth spins ‘round

Clouds blow by

It may all start to look the same

Without looking in your own eyes

Well the tide just flooded in

It’s a million-year-old trend

But it’s the first time I got to show it to my new best friend

I saw myself in the mirror today with an ear to ear wide smile

Never thought there could be such a love for such a tiny child

Then it occurred to me, that it’s the one thing that life has to lend

I saw myself in the mirror with my little new best friend
